Barrel O'Fun Snack Food Company

Barrel O'Fun began in the spring of 1973 by the father and son team of Tuffy and Kenny Nelson at Perham, Minnesota. The company began with approximately ten employees and produced potato chips, extruded cheese curls, and popcorn. Products were primarily marketed in Minnesota, North and South Dakota.

In April of 1981, the company was sold (now with 75 employees) to the G. Heileman Brewing Co. of LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

Over the next five years the company installed larger, more automated production equipment including tortilla and corn chip lines. Private label sales became a much larger part of the business.

In July of 1988 Kenny Nelson, a group of managers, and an outside investor repurchased the company from G. Heileman Brewing Co. This ownership continued until November of 1995 when Kenny Nelson bought out the outside investors. By this time employment had grown to over 350 people.

Shortly after the above buyout a holding corporation, KLN Enterprises, Inc., was formed to include both Barrel O'Fun Snack Foods Company and Kenny’s Candy Company.

In October 2004, Barrel O'Fun added a 100,000 sq. ft. state of the art production facility to more efficiently produce potato chips and snacks. The new facility will allow Barrel O'Fun to monitor and control production in a better work environment to meet federal and state regulations. At the same time the facility allows greater flexibility to produce new products that may be kosher and / or organic.
